You can be valued for what you are or you can be valued for what you do.

If you ARE the value, then you are not valued for doing but for being. Like currency.

This makes you useable & exchangeable as currency.

This takes any agency, individuality, or freedom from you.

If you are valued for what you do then you may choose when, where, why & how, and to what ends you will do this thing.

It is better to be a skilled contractor than an unskilled labourer. The labourer is replaceable, disrespected, unvalued. In short, the labourer is fit only to be used.

The skilled contractor is not an object to be used, they are a force to be reckoned with, a respected entity whose value must be negotiated for.

As a woman, it is better to be useful for what you do, what changes you make to your family, tribe, and to the world, than to simply “be” of value unto yourself and be merely held as currency; only to be exchanged or hoarded by a man who has no real use for you.

“I am the value.” = I am useless, but use me as currency.

“I bring value.” = I am useful, so convince me to benefit you.
