Model Context Protocol (MCP):

• This is a new and evolving open standard designed to enable AI models, particularly large language models (LLMs), to connect and interact with external data sources, tools, and services in a standardized and secure way.
• Think of it as a “universal connector” for AI, similar to a USB-C port for devices. It aims to replace the need for custom integrations for each tool or data source.

AI and LLMs have been a buzz word for the past year, nothing more…but now with this MCP, it is open-sourced and recently announced by Anthropic in late November 2024, it gained significant traction and recognition within the AI community in early 2025. This surge in interest is due to the realization that connecting AI agents to real-world data and tools was a critical challenge, and MCP provided a standardized solution.
